Margaret V. Ragni, M.D., MPH

Bio


Dr. Ragni is a Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, and Director, Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania. She received her M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1975 and M.P.H. in 1993 from the Graduate School of Public Health. She completed her medical residency in 1978 and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology in 1981 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a fellowship in Coagulation/Blood Bank at Central Blood Bank, Pittsburgh in 1982. She is active in clinical translational research and in mentoring fellows, residents, and students, and is funded by federal research grants from NHLBI and NIAID. She has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in the area of hemophilia and von Willebrand disease, and in transfusion-related hepatitis C and HIV/HCV co-infection. She is the recipient of the kenneth Brinkhous Award for Excellence in Clinical Research by the National Hemophilia Foundation; 1998; and the Kenneth E. Schuit Award, Dean's Award for Master Educator by the University of Pittsburgh, in 1998. She serves on the NHBLI Hemostatis and Thrombosis Study Section; the American Society of Hematology Development Committee; is past editor of the ASH News Daily, on the Executive Board of the Hemophilia &Thrombosis Research Society of North America, and as a member of the National Hemophilia Foundation Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee. She is a member of NHBLI Hemostatis & Thrombosis study section, and serves as a Co-chair, Hemophilia & Von Willebrand Subcommittee of the NHBLI State-of-the-Art Symposium to determine national hemostasis research priorities.
