About HCWP
The Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania (HCWP) is a free-standing clinic in existence for over 35 years and under the Directorship of Margaret V. Ragni, MD. Dr. Ragni has been a physician at the Hemophilia Center since 1982, and the Director since 1988. We provide comprehensive medical, nursing and psychosocial services to persons with hemophilia and other bleeding and clotting disorders. HCWP is the only hemophilia center providing comprehensive services to affected individuals and their families in the 27 counties of Western Pennsylvania. The facility, on average, sees six new and 40 return patients per month and provides phone consultation for patients on home treatment or who live at a distance and receive treatment at local ER/Offices. At HCWP, there is a strong clinical research component, providing education, assessment, and enrollment on numerous protocols for safety and efficacy of new clotting factor concentrates, antiviral drugs for HIV and HCV, prospective epidemiologic studies of hemophilia and Von Willebrand disease complications. We support active teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students and a monthly Center Research Conference is presented by each Center staff member on a timely topic pertinent to the field. Monthly seminars are presented by physicians and staff on timely topics in coagulation, and the Western PA Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation sponsors talks by physicians and staff to groups of patients and families. The HCWP is supported by PA Department of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, Centers for DiseaseControl and Prevention, and our Factor Program with separate funding for ongoing federal and pharmaceutical research projects. Our staff includes Medical, Nursing, Psychosocial, Physical Therapy, Administrative and Clerical staff. HCWP is governed by a Board of Directors. | |||
